Named in honor of our beloved Cindy Lou, the mission of Cindy Lou’s Sanctuary is to rescue and provide sanctuary as a loving and safe home for Dachshunds and other small breeds.

When possible we arrange adoptions to forever homes, but we are always committed to each one’s lifelong emotional and physical care.

How about some great news?! Our very own Saint – the wildest man has found his people! He has an amazing shave down and is looking super handsome – he’s been working with his potential adopters for a bit now and it was finally time! We know he has lots to learn, but he is one of those dogs who is worth the work and the wait! Congratulations to all! Happy tails! This has made my heart so joyful! Thanks so much to Friends of Berkeley County Animal Center for helping with his sedated shave down See MoreSee Less

How about some great

Prayers please! Our sweet champ had a bump on neck that opened up at his fosters. I have him at the vet – and he needs to have the tumor removed and also several teeth and it just cannot wait. Thanks to Friends of Berkeley County Animal Center they jumped right in and said YES! to helping and covered the cost for our amazing vet who also said YES! to making this happen today. We are praying for our little 16 year old boy to come through safely and feeling much better! See MoreSee Less

Today just fell apart for me. I drove to Bennettsville with Blossoms puppies, an xpen, a load of treats and determination that I wasn’t coming home without her. I didn’t sleep
Much last night worrying about her. In a strange place, outside, alone, scared, not knowing where to go. My heart just broke for her. My fosters neighbor saw me setting up and came to help. Reported they had seen her a couple times but couldn’t get her. He offered to help search again. We searched, he spotted her in a driveway and she ran into some woods. I walked the driveway, I called and called and saw nothing. Then, a flick of a tail in the shadows of a bush, a closer look, and she was there, huddled in a corner of a fence behind a shed, behind bushed and brambles, scared, eyes wide, but that little tail full of hope. I climbed through and suddenly she came – jumped into my arms and was safe! We are all back home safe and sound, she had a big dinner, got lots of love from everyone and is sound asleep! My plans for the day were blown, but oh the joy of finding our little lost girl! ❤️

We love when Savannah Jones Watson fosters our babies!Meet Jackson and Bitsy – a bonded pair of silent, 7 year old Chihuahuas with matching underbites. They come as a set. There will be no separation or negotiation. They have discussed it and firmly said no. Here’s some fun facts about both!

Jackson:
💙 He has never known personal space and does not plan to learn
💙 The social butterfly
💙 Mostly housetrained. Does he mark ar first? Yes. Is he doing his best? Also yes.
💙 Will gently paw you for pets
💙 Tiny body; unreasonably chaotic sneeze

Bitsy:
💖 Introvert, but polite about it
💖 Tiger aesthetic, couch lifestyle
💖 Loves walks, hates harnesses
💖 Nail clippers = immediate drama
💖 Fully housetrained (Jackson calls her an overachiever)

Together (which is always):
❤️ Bottom teeth first… always
❤️ Share 2 brain cells
❤️ Extremely dog and people friendly
❤️ Zero barking. Yes, we are also suspicious
❤️ Cratetrained
❤️ They refuse to be more than 6 feet apart. No COVID rules here. This is emotional codependency at its finest.
❤️ Their schedule? Sleep.

Their ideal home would be a calmer, consistent environment with plenty of blankets. They’ve experienced some stress in the past, so they appreciate a quieter home and gentle handling. Together, their adoption fee is $400 which includes their neuter and spay surgeries, initial vaccines, and so many years of quiet affection.

You can apply to adopt through Cindy Lou’s Legacy Sanctuary . Please PM me with any questions about these two lovebugs 🐾

Update on today! Ginger did very well, she is now spayed and has gotten all her vaccines, bloodwork and we did discover she is heartworm positive. Our amazing surgical tech Allison, has fallen head over heels for her and has taken her home to be a quiet foster for her. She is starting the first step of her heartworm treatment and recovering from today’s surgery
Our two boys that had sedated shave downs did great and are back at the sanctuary!
We also had an emergency today with our puppy Daphne who engaged in a little rough play with a bigger dog and had to go see Dr Thompson but she is doing well. The last two of Blossoms babies got their shots and are doing great. We also took Sally O’Malley to the vet to be evaluator a UTI – but turns out it may be something bigger. We are running bloodwork to try and get a handle on what’s happening.
We are incredibly grateful to Friends of Berkeley County Animal Center for helping to cover the cost for Ginger, Saint and Toby, you are angels! We are also beyond thankful to the amazing staff at The Animal Hospital of North Charleston, vets, practice manager, techs, desk staff, all of you made an insane and hard day of worrying bearable!! Thank you for caring so much about our babies.

I want to send out a huge thank you to Friends of Berkeley County Animal Center for their help in getting our two newest sweethearts vaccinated yesterday. These 2 came to us unexpectedly in a rush when their owner found themselves in a heartbreaking situation. We were glad to be able to help, but they needed vaccines right away. Thankfully Friends of Berkeley Animal Center were having their low cost clinic yesterday and we able to help with the cost of getting them fully covered and heartworm tested! We are so grateful!!!

From our wonderful a

Meet Walter. This snaggletoothed fella is roughly 5 years old, full of energy, smart as they come, and has LOTS of love to give! Now, don't let the cuteness of that snaggletooth fool you; Walter occasionally decides to use it for naughtiness. Let's start with the good though. As stated previously, Walter is extremely smart, catching on to my daily routine within a week. Did I mention he is already housetrained, and does his business outside like a good boy? As a foster mom that didn't know his history, that was a SUPER pleasant surprise! He love love LOVES to chew on sticks or chase a ball. He almost equally loves for you to chase him with the ball. Walter gets on well with all of my dogs, and has developed a particular affinity for my little pittie girl, Olive who is just about his size and matches his energy- they spend most of their time together playing, cuddling, or fighting for space in my lap. He loves to chase the cats, but doesn't try to hurt them. Still, I would not recommend him for a home with a cat that's easily stressed. He knows the command sit. And for a treat, he will do it for about 30 seconds. Now for the not-so-wonderful traits. Walter can be food aggressive. He's come a long way in a short time but will need someone who understands food aggression and recognizes changes in body language pretty quickly. He is fast and gives very little warning. You have to be careful when taking away toys or things he shouldn't be chewing because if you just reach for it, he will try to bite. He does respond well to loud verbal commands…again, he is so smart, and he listens well….but if you tend to react before you verbally correct, his reaction is to bite. He will also go into the crate fine, but once he's in there, he will bark and growl. This is another behavior we are working on (and making progress with). Once he is kenneled, he will continue to bark to be let out if he knows you are home, but he does not bark once you've left the home (ring cam verified). Walter is a super smart boy and will be a great addition to the right home! There are days I think it would be super easy just to keep him because he does fit in so well with my pack, and he seems to be quite happy here. However, as much as I enjoy him, and think he's a sweet boy, I also think he also deserves to be the apple of someone's eye; he has lots of love to give and he's going to flourish in the right home! Full disclosure- Walter has bitten two people and attempted to bite me on more than one occasion. For this reason alone, I would recommend a home with no small children. That being said, he was around my sister's 3 children (supervised) – 10yrs, 3 yrs, 9 mo, and he did just fine. See MoreSee Less

We took an emergency transport over the weekend – seven 8 week old puppies – all just under 3 pounds, owner surrendered to a shelter by a homeless person who wanted them to have a chance at life. We are assessing and settling them in. We are anticipating they will be ready to adopt in February. Stay tuned! Right now the are a beautiful puppy heap – and just before you ask – we do not know anything about the breed. Big thanks to Anthony Ditrio and Cams Transport for getting to me! See MoreSee Less
